MOM Workplace & Safety Report for Q1 2020

Singapore Ministry of Manpower released January – March 2020 Workplace & Safety Report.

According to the report, “the first quarter of 2020 saw fewer workplace fatalities, injuries and occupational diseases, compared to the last quarter of 2019. However, the 12-month rolling fatal injury rate increased. This was due to more fatalities in the past six months than in the first half of 2019.”

  • The Construction and Transportation & Storage industries had the highest number of fatal injuries
  • Construction had the highest number of major injuries
  • In Q1 2020, Falls from Height was the top cause of fatal injuries
  • Slips, Trips and Falls were the top cause of major injuries

During Circuit Breaker, some businesses have to stay open and can be even busier than normal, e.g. services such as food delivery and grocery logistics will see a peak. MOM urges these firms to ensure they have put safety measures in place to keep their workers protected, monitor job frequency to prevent rushing, and to urge drivers and riders to pay attention to road safety and safe distancing.
