The Safe Access Platform project involved the design, supply, and supervision of 42 modular platforms—later extended with 13 additional units—for the wastewater treatment facility at BP’s Tangguh LNG site in Papua. Kee Safety worked with the main contractor CSTS (Saipem) and procurement partner PT Galperti. They completed the project on a fast-tracked schedule by the end of 2024. Despite Papua’s remote location, complex import regulations, and BP’s stringent safety protocols, the project was successfully delivered with full compliance and on-time installation.
The platforms were constructed using Kee Klamp® fittings, 80-micron galvanised steel tubing, and 30mm yellow FRP panels to meet BP’s 2.5 kPa load requirements. The solution offered a safer, more durable alternative to traditional scaffolding, significantly improving worker access and safety during maintenance activities. This project highlighted Kee Safety’s ability to overcome logistical, regulatory, and operational challenges while delivering a high-performance, site-specific access solution for a leading oil & gas operator.
In early April 2024, BP Indonesia approached Kee Safety with a critical requirement—modular safe access platforms for their wastewater treatment facility at the Tangguh LNG site in Papua. The project demanded a high level of technical precision, compliance with oil and gas safety standards, and smooth execution across remote logistics.
Our Design and Engineering Team immediately got to work, reviewing the site requirements and developing a compliant concept using Kee Klamp® fittings, galvanised steel tubing, and FRP grating. Following design approval, we partnered with BP’s main contractor, CSTS and their authorised procurement vendor PT Galperti to ensure seamless material sourcing and delivery. Detailed structural calculations, shop drawings, and 3D models were submitted for approval, reinforcing our commitment to engineering excellence.
To meet tight timelines, our Operations and Logistics Team prepared and dispatched materials in two phases. Each batch was quality-checked, inspected, and packaged with care to ensure safe transport to Papua. By pre-cutting components and optimising container space, we minimised shipping volume and reduced installation time on site.
On the ground, our Site Supervision Team led the installation process with full training and compliance support. Within just 26 days, 42 custom-designed access platforms were successfully installed. Final inspection and handover were completed in September 2024—on time, on spec, and with zero compromise on safety.
Major industrial projects demand precision, coordination, and the ability to overcome complex logistical and technical challenges. The BP Indonesia Safe Access Platform project exemplifies how Kee Safety applies its global project experience and specialised industry knowledge to deliver high-performance safety solutions—even in the most remote and regulated environments.
From the beginning, the project presented a tight timeline driven by BP’s need to utilise existing on-site labour. Kee Safety responded with agility, activating alternate procurement strategies and fast-tracking design approvals to stay ahead of schedule. When traditional vendor approvals threatened to slow things down, we engaged a pre-qualified subcontractor familiar with BP’s systems, which helped us bypass bottlenecks and move straight into execution.
High metal import duties, strict contractual structures, and remote access logistics posed additional layers of complexity. However, through thorough research and effective collaboration, we selected PT Galperti, a trusted BP-approved supplier, to handle material procurement and import coordination. Our engineering, logistics, and installation teams worked in sync, managing every detail from quality inspections to container planning to ensure everything arrived on-site safely and on time.
This project reflects Kee Safety’s proven ability to deliver engineered fall protection and safe access systems on a global scale. Our approach is built on practical experience, local adaptability, and a deep understanding of industry compliance, making us a trusted partner for complex oil & gas safety projects across Asia and beyond.
Kee Safety delivered a complete modular safe access platform system designed specifically for BP Indonesia’s wastewater treatment facility at the Tangguh LNG site. The solution included the design, material supply, and site supervision of 42 custom platforms, later extended with 13 additional units—all built to meet strict oil & gas safety standards and withstand harsh site conditions.
To ensure installation efficiency, the FRP panels were pre-cut, components were pre-engineered, and logistics were planned for container optimisation. The entire solution was tailored to reduce fall hazards, improve maintenance access, and comply with BP’s operational safety procedures.
Key Areas of Expertise Demonstrated
This project reflects Kee Safety’s deep capabilities in delivering engineered safe access platforms under extreme conditions. With a reputation for fall protection excellence and extensive experience in high-risk sectors, our team was able to provide a durable, compliant, and site-specific solution that addressed all critical requirements—without delay or compromise.
Kee Safety access platforms are delivered with drawings to clearly show how to construct the platform. Small platforms can be delivered fully assembled but will require installation inspection before use to ensure complete compliance to safety criteria. Larger platforms are delivered as component parts and will be assembled on site by professional Kee Safety installers.
